The Backlash

Social media is ablaze with angry customers. Many express frustration at the lack of notification and the inability to use their gift cards, even during the sales. Comments include:

"I just want you to know how incredibly upsetting it is that you cut off our ability to use gift cards."
"Regardless of the fact that you are closing, your business took money and now refuses to give the product in exchange for it. Wrong."
One customer reported losing $40 due to the missed opportunity.

Maine residents are particularly affected, due to a state law prohibiting gift certificate expiration.

Why are Joann's Closing?

The mass closures follow Joann's second Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing within a year. The company auctioned its remaining assets.
