RCB Signs Mayank Agarwal as Padikkal Replacement in IPL 2025

May 8, 2025 - Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has announced the signing of experienced batter Mayank Agarwal as a replacement for the injured Devdutt Padikkal for the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season.

Padikkal, who has been a promising player for RCB this season, was ruled out due to a right hamstring injury. He scored an impressive 247 runs in 10 matches at a strike rate of 150.61, including two half-centuries. His absence is a significant blow to RCB, especially ahead of their crucial match against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on May 9th.

Agarwal, a veteran of 127 IPL matches with a total of 2661 runs (including one century and 13 half-centuries), joins RCB for INR 1 crore. This move signifies RCB's commitment to maintaining a strong lineup as they aim for a playoff spot. He brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record to the team.

The official IPL statement confirmed the signing: “Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have signed Mayank Agarwal as an injury replacement for Devdutt Padikkal for the remainder of TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.”

RCB currently holds the second position in the IPL points table, making Agarwal's addition all the more crucial. The team will rely on his experience to guide the younger players and contribute significantly to their remaining matches.

Agarwal's Return to RCB

Interestingly, Agarwal's IPL journey began with RCB, making his return a significant moment for both the player and the franchise. His recent stint with Sunrisers Hyderabad was less successful, but his proven ability makes him a valuable asset for RCB's playoff push.

Other IPL News

In other IPL news, Delhi Capitals have signed Sediqullah Atal as a replacement for Harry Brook. Atal's impressive 1507 runs in 49 matches make him a promising addition to the Capitals' batting lineup.

Looking Ahead

The upcoming match against LSG will be a critical test for RCB's adaptability and resilience in the face of Padikkal's absence. All eyes will be on Agarwal to see if he can fill the void and help RCB secure a victory.
