Teen Indicted for MURDER After Frisco ISD Track Meet Stabbing!

A Collin County grand jury has indicted 18-year-old Karmelo Anthony for murder in the tragic stabbing death of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf at a Frisco ISD track meet in April. This shocking event sent ripples through the community, and the details are even more disturbing than initially reported.

Anthony, who was 17 at the time of the incident, has been charged with first-degree murder. He was initially arrested in April and released on a reduced bond, but the recent indictment brings the case closer to trial. If convicted, he faces a sentence ranging from 5 to 99 years, or even life in prison. The Texas justice system treats 17-year-olds as adults in such cases.

Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis released a statement acknowledging the profound impact this case has had on the community. He emphasized the importance of a steady and principled approach to justice. Mr. Metcalf's father, Jeff Metcalf, expressed his hope for justice while acknowledging the irreversible loss of his son.

Anthony's attorney, Mike Howard, issued a video statement asserting confidence in the justice system and expressing the hope that the full story will be heard in court, highlighting the possibility of self-defense. The case will now proceed with the assignment of a trial judge and a subsequent court date.

Frisco ISD recently released surveillance footage of the incident. While the video doesn't offer crystal-clear visuals due to distance, it shows the moments leading up to the stabbing and the immediate aftermath. The footage also depicts the frantic response of emergency personnel and the discovery of the murder weapon.

After his arrest, Anthony reportedly made statements to police, acknowledging his involvement and raising questions about self-defense. These statements are sure to be central to the upcoming trial.

This case continues to unfold, and CBS News Texas will provide updates as they become available. The community awaits justice for Austin Metcalf, and the legal process will determine the ultimate fate of Karmelo Anthony.
